Vegan Smoothies: Two Ways

I had a bunch of random fruit and juices lying around in my fridge/freezer, that I decided to whip up together in a smoothie, and if I can be frank- it turned out pretty good!

Green Smoothie


What you'll need

  • A handful of spinach

  • A handful of kale

  • 1 very ripe banana

  • 1/4 cup frozen mango

  • 1 green apple, diced

  • 1/3 to 1/2 cup of coconut water

  • Squirt of lemon juice

  • 1 tsp chia seeds

  • 1/2 tsp maca powder

There is an art to layering your smoothie ingredients so everything becomes equally incorporated. For this smoothie, first pour both the lemon juice and coconut water, and top with your chia seeds, maca powder, and spirulina into the blender. Next, place half of your ripe banana into your blender. Throw a handful of spinach in there. Then, layer all of your frozen fruit, and end it off with the other half of the banana. Blend. 

Once everything is blended evenly, pour into a glass and top with hemp seeds (completely optional but I like the texture it gives).


Cacao Banana Smoothie

What you'll need

  • 2 frozen bananas

  • 1 + 1/2 tbsp cacao powder

  • 1 tsp maca powder

  • 1 tbsp peanut butter (I used Trader Joe's Crunchy Salted Peanut Butter with Flax & Chia Seeds)

  • (At least) 1 cup of plant milk

  • 1 tbsp cacao nibs


  • Chia seeds + ground flax seeds- if you're using regular peanut butter

At the frozen bananas, cacao powder, maca powder, peanut butter, and plant milk to a blender. Mix until smooth + creamy. Pour into a glass and top with cacao nibs.
